Local Knowledge
Beach sand, 18th-century brick, and everything between.
At Fairfield Beach the subgrade is sand and the exposure is direct. Patios and walkways set on unstabilized sand migrate, and storm surge scours out bases that were never designed to drain. On shoreline properties we stabilize the base, elevate where the flood elevation calls for it, and use breathable mortar and corrosion-resistant anchors so salt air does not eat the assembly from the inside.
Southport village and Greenfield Hill hold some of the oldest building stock in the county — 18th and 19th-century brick and fieldstone laid in soft lime mortar. That masonry needs lime-based repointing, matched joint profiles, and a mason willing to say when a section needs rebuilding instead of pointing. Hard Portland mortar on those walls spalls the brick face within a few freeze-thaw seasons.
Along Black Rock Turnpike and the Post Road the work is commercial: facade repointing, veneer repair, lintel and weep detailing on brick that carries traffic vibration and road salt spray all winter.
